Upsets continue in Philippine Open

Their exits came earlier than expected. Fisher and Van Boening suffered their second straight loss in the tournament in as many games, thus eliminating them in this World Pool-Billiard Association-sanctioned event. Fisher, better known as “The Duchess of Doom” in the international pool circuit, got the boot from a virtually unknown and young opponent Marika Poikkijoki of Finland, 9-7. The match was a real marathon of about 4 hours finishing well after midnight. World number 1 women player, Ga Young Kim also lost, beaten 8-9 by fellow Korean Lin Yum Mi. Ga Young now crosses to the loser’s side and will play Allison’s victor Marika Poikkiokki tomorrow in a sudden death match. Ouschan and Kim beat their respective rivals in convincing fashion to serve notice of their title aspirations in this event sanctioned by the World Pool-Billiard Association and organized by Raya Sports in cooperation with the Billiards and Snooker Congress of the Philippines. Mika Immonen was one big name casualty from today’s play, losing 6-9 against Chinese player, Li Wen Lo, currently ranked 105. If today’s performance is anything to go by, Lo will certainly climb fairly rapidly in the rankings as there was a lot to like of his game today. This magnetic and prestigious event took place at the Valley Forge Convention Center in King of Prussia, PA from March 10 – 13.
