His next opponent had promise of being a very tough match. Feng-Ban Zhao had just come from a solid 11-4 trouncing of newly crowned Philippine Open champ Thorsten Hohmann but Chang was simply an over-reach for Zhao as Chang mangled him 11-5  to earn the right to do battle with Nick Van Den Berg. Van Den Berg had done some giant-killing of his own.  He had beaten both Shane Van Boening (9-3) and Dennis Orcullo (9-4) in the primary rounds and continued to grind it out through the final brackets. He took down Hao-Xiang Han (11-8) and Quingshun Yang...

Hohmann, Chen Win Philippine Open

Thorsten Hohmann had a bit more of a battle on his hands in his victory. He and Ralf Souquet went rack for rack with never more than a single point between them until Souquet gained his first lead of the match at 10-9 in the race to 11. From there Hohmann won the next two racks to claim the title. When Hohmann won the rack to get him to double-hill it was his third hill-hill match in the last four. He had also won against Carlo Biado and Ricky Yang by the same margin. It was rather ironic that...

Day Four: Souquet, Liu advance to Final Four

The two asserted their dominance Sunday by pulling off two more wins to stay unscathed in this WPA-sanctioned tournament. They are the only undefeated players in the tournament.
