The 2026 WPA African Heyball Open has officially commenced in Harare, Zimbabwe, with an opening ceremony celebrating the continued international expansion of Heyball and the growing role of Africa within the global cue sports ecosystem.
Hosted at Munondo Eleven Events, the championship marks the third consecutive year the African Open has been staged on the continent, following the inaugural edition in Morocco in 2024 and the second edition in Egypt in 2025. The event continues to establish itself as a key pillar within Heyball’s international development structure.
Players from multiple nations and regions have gathered in Zimbabwe to compete across the Men’s and Women’s divisions, further highlighting the sport’s accelerating international reach and competitive growth.
The opening ceremony welcomed athletes, federation officials, organizers, and supporters of cue sports, setting the stage for three days of elite competition and international sporting exchange.
As Heyball continues expanding across six continents, the African Open represents another important milestone in the sport’s long-term strategic vision and its ambition toward wider global recognition, including the ongoing pathway toward Olympic inclusion.
Speaking on the significance of the event, organizers emphasized the importance of Africa’s continued involvement in the worldwide growth of Heyball and the successful establishment of a recurring continental championship.
The 2026 WPA African Heyball Open features a total prize fund of USD 116,000 and runs from 18–20 May 2026 in Harare, Zimbabwe.
