With a history dating back to 2009, the China Open has played an important role in the development and international growth of 9-ball, providing a major stage for elite players and contributing to the sport’s expanding global footprint.
The 2026 edition continues that tradition under the theme:
“New and Beyond: Meet Tangzhen, Embrace the Future.”
The theme reflects both the heritage of the China Open and its continued evolution as the sport moves forward.
Over the years, the China Open has become synonymous with high-level international competition, bringing together leading players and creating some of the memorable moments in the history of professional 9-ball.
The 2026 WPA Pudong Tangzhen 9-Ball China Open continues that legacy, with players once again competing on one of the sport’s recognised international stages.
The event is hosted by the World Pool Association (WPA), China Billiards Association and Shanghai Billiards Association, with the event organised by the Shanghai Pudong New Area Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, Shanghai Pudong New Area Tangzhen People’s Government and Shanghai Billiards Association.
The event’s supporting and co-organising partners include leading organisations from the Chinese and international cue-sports community.
A LEGACY THAT CONTINUES
Since its first edition in 2009, the China Open has witnessed the rise of champions, welcomed generations of international players and remained an important fixture in the development of competitive 9-ball.
