INDIA TO HOST THE 2026 WPA HEYBALL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN PUNE

PUNE, INDIA — The World Pool Association (WPA) has officially announced that the 2026 WPA Heyball World Championships will be held in Pune, India, from 12–15 August 2026, bringing the world’s premier Heyball championship to one of Asia’s fastest-growing cue sports markets.

Hosted in partnership with the Billiards & Snooker Federation of India (BSFI), the championship is conducted under the authority of the World Pool Association (WPA), a founding member of the World Confederation of Billiards Sports (WCBS), and is sanctioned through the Asian Confederation of Billiard Sports (ACBS), the continental governing body for cue sports in Asia.

The event reinforces the collaborative pathway established by WCBS, WPA, ACBS, and national federations to develop cue sports globally while advancing recognition within the international sporting movement.

The championship will take place at the Rajan Khinvasara National Academy at Jairaj Sports & Convention Center and will feature 128 athletes, comprising 64 men and 64 women, competing for a total prize fund of USD $400,000, equally distributed across both divisions.

As the third edition of the WPA Heyball World Championships, the event continues the rapid growth of Heyball across all continents. Athletes will qualify through WPA Heyball Rankings and nominations from WPA member federations, representing the sport’s highest level of international competition.

The championship will welcome competitors from across the WPA’s continental structure, including Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania, North America, and South America, highlighting the truly global nature of modern Heyball competition.

All matches will be contested under official WPA Heyball Rules on professional JOY Heyball tables and broadcast globally through WPALive.TV.

A Milestone for India and Asian Cue Sports

The awarding of the 2026 WPA Heyball World Championships to India reflects the country’s growing importance within international cue sports and demonstrates the confidence of the WPA, WCBS and ACBS in India’s ability to deliver world-class international championships.

The event is expected to attract elite athletes, officials, industry stakeholders, media, and fans from around the world, further strengthening Asia’s position as a leading region for the development of Heyball and cue sports.

With world titles, substantial prize money, and international prestige on the line, Pune is set to become the focal point of the global Heyball community in August 2026.
