Joint Statement from the WPA and IBF regarding the Future of Blackball

To all players, officials, and stakeholders in the Blackball community,

We understand that recent developments surrounding the governance of Blackball have caused confusion and we want to provide clarity and reassurance about the future of our sport.

In November 2024, the Regional Members of Blackball International (BI) voted unanimously to invite the World Pool Association (WPA) to adopt the discipline of Blackball as a discipline and to assume its governing responsibilities.  The WPA Board agreed and formally resolved:-

Following the recent Annual General Meeting of Blackball International and the request from Blackball International that the discipline of Blackball be adopted as a discipline of the WPA, the Board resolved to adopt Blackball as a discipline of the WPA with administrative effect from 1 January 2025

These two decisions mark a significant step toward unifying the discipline under the WPA and enhancing the growth, professionalism, and recognition of Blackball on the international stage.

Accordingly, from 1 January 2025 the WPA is the governing body for Blackball and BI’s governance role has concluded. The governance of Blackball will occur through a WPA Advisory Council.  The WPA has reached out to the BI Board members and the IBF Board members to ascertain their interest in being part of that Council.  We want to unequivocally state that Blackball’s governance now falls under the WPA, which is working to establish a strong and inclusive framework for the sport’s future.

In our efforts to promote unity and collaboration, the WPA has approached the International Blackball Federation (IBF) to discuss the possibility of aligning their vision with ours. We are pleased to confirm that the IBF has agreed to meet with us to explore opportunities for collaboration and to ensure a shared vision for the sport’s future.

We want to emphasise that this transition is about progress and creating a unified future for Blackball. We respect the history and contributions of all organisations and individuals who have supported the sport over the years. Our focus is on working together to ensure the best outcomes for players, fans, and the Blackball community in the future.

To all players: We understand your concerns and are committed to providing clear, consistent information as we move forward. The WPA and IBF will keep you updated on any significant developments, and we encourage you to reach out to your respective national associations if you have questions.

Thank you for your dedication to Blackball. Together, we will ensure a bright and unified future for our sport.
