The World Pool Billiard Association(WPA) is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with the Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation(QBSF) to continue hosting and staging the World 9-ball Championship in Qatar for another four years.
The new, four year deal was signed between WPA President Ian Anderson and the Secretary General of the Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation, Mr. Mohamed Salem Al-Nuaimi, on the sidelines of the recently held 2017 World 9-ball Championship in Doha. The QBSF has successfully hosted the World 9-ball Championship since 2010. With this new deal, pool’s most prestigious title will continue to be held in Qatar through 2021.
“We are very proud and excited to continue hosting and staging the World 9-ball Championship for another four years,” said Mr. Al-Nuami. “For the last eight years, it’s been an honor welcoming the world’s best pool players competing for pool’s biggest title. The event has helped fuel the tremendous growth of pool throughout the Middle East. We look forward to another four years working with our friends at the WPA and all the great sponsors and players who make this event happen.”
“Everyone at the WPA and throughout the pool world is just thrilled about this latest development,” Mr. Anderson said. “Back in 2009, when the worldwide economic crisis had forced the cancellation of the World 9-ball Championship for two years, the QBSF stepped up and brought the event back to life. Each and every year since then, they have done a fantastic job of organizing and staging this great championship. This has been directly responsible for the phenomenal growth of pool throughout the Middle East which has been a welcome development for the sport. We look forward to working with all the great people at the QBSF for another four years.”
The World 9-ball Championship is scheduled to be held in Doha in December, 2018.
