WPA Heyball World Championship 2025 Opens in Brisbane — A Global Step Toward Cue Sports’ Olympic Dream

The World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) proudly announces the opening of the 2025 WPA Heyball World Championship at Nissan Arena, Brisbane, marking the start of five days of elite global competition and celebration of the sport’s next evolution.

This year’s championship brings together 128 of the world’s best cueists64 men and 64 women — representing over 40 countries. With a total prize fund of USD $400,000, the event showcases not only the growing stature of Heyball internationally but also the WPA’s long-term vision to elevate cue sports to Olympic recognition.

“Heyball has rapidly become one of the most inclusive, exciting, and competitive disciplines within cue sports,” said Ian Anderson, President of the WPA. “It’s not just about a championship — it’s about building a global movement that unites nations, athletes, and fans under a shared dream: to see cue sports take their rightful place on the Olympic stage.”

Precision. Passion. Progress.

Over the next five days (November 1–5), players will compete under the bright lights of Nissan Arena, with matches streamed live worldwide via WPA’s official Facebook and YouTube channels and WPALive.tv.

The men’s and women’s divisions feature a mix of established world champions, rising stars, and cross-discipline athletes — from snooker icons and pool professionals to digital influencers and national champions — all aiming to etch their names in Heyball history.

Notable participants include reigning 2024 world champions, national champions from across Asia and Europe, and fast-emerging players from the Americas and Africa, signaling the sport’s truly global footprint.

From Tables to the World Stage

Heyball’s innovative format — blending the technical precision of snooker with the attacking pace of pool — has accelerated its global growth. With the expansion of federations, new ranking systems, and international broadcast partnerships, the sport has made significant strides toward aligning with international multi-sport standards.

The WPA continues to work with global partners and regional federations to standardize competition frameworks, promote youth development, and integrate gender parity — all vital components for Olympic pathway recognition.

“Every rack, every frame, every moment here in Brisbane is part of a larger story,” added Ishaun Singh. “Cue sports are more than games — they represent skill, discipline, and unity. The Olympic dream isn’t distant; it’s a direction we’re already moving in.”
