The World Pool Association (WPA), the international governing body for pool, is proud to announce the elevation of Heyball from a pool code governed by an Affiliated International Federation to a discipline directly governed by the WPA. This significant transition underscores the growing popularity and importance of Heyball in the global pool community.
Heyball, a variant of eight-ball pool that has gained immense popularity in China, will now be recognized as an official discipline of the WPA. This change reflects the WPA’s commitment to adapting to the evolving landscape of pool sports and ensuring that emerging disciplines receive the appropriate governance and support.
Heyball will be governed directly by the WPA with the assistance of an Advisory Council. The WPA, its continental federations and their national federations have collaborated to ensure a smooth transition for Heyball.
Ishaun Singh, the President of the WPA, stated, “We are delighted to welcome Heyball as a directly governed discipline under the WPA. This transition marks a significant milestone for the sport and reflects the increasing global popularity and competitive standards of Heyball. We look forward to working closely with the Advisory Council to further develop and promote Heyball on the world stage.”
The new Advisory Council for Heyball will consist of appointed members who will assist in the governance of the discipline. Directors of the WPA may serve as members of the Advisory Council, ensuring that Heyball benefits from the extensive experience and expertise within the WPA leadership. The Board, in consultation with Continental Members, will appoint members to the Advisory Council and establish rules of procedure to guide its operations.
Heyball’s unique gameplay, featuring tables with rounded pocket openings and napped cloth, has captivated players and fans alike, particularly in China. The major tournaments in Heyball boast some of the largest prize money in pool, highlighting the sport’s prominence and potential for growth.
As the governing body for pool sports since 1987, the WPA continues to uphold its mission of promoting and developing various pool disciplines globally. With the addition of Heyball as a directly governed discipline, the WPA reaffirms its dedication to fostering diversity and excellence in the world of pool sports.
