Albin Ouschan Eliminated as Last 64 of World 9-Ball Championship Confirmed

The World 9-Ball Championship, taking place at the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal City Sports Hall in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from June 3-8, has delivered several surprising outcomes. Notably, two-time champion Albin Ouschan has been eliminated, while top players like Francisco Sanchez Ruiz, Shane Van Boening, and Joshua Filler have advanced to the last 64.

Organized in collaboration with the Saudi Arabian Billiard & Snooker Federation (SABSF), the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Sport, and WPA’s promoter Matchroom Sport Limited, this prestigious event is being broadcasted globally on platforms such as Sky Sports, SSC, Shahid VIP Sports, MENA, and DAZN.

In a surprizing result, Austria’s Albin Ouschan, a two-time World 9-Ball Champion, was defeated by Johann Chua with a score line of 9-3. This result highlights the unpredictable nature of the sport.

Joining Ouschan in early exits were Duong Quoc Hoang, Skyler Woodward, and Pia Filler, the tournament’s sole female competitor.

Defending champion Francisco Sanchez Ruiz maintained his strong performance, defeating Filipino player Kyle Amoroto 9-4. Former World 9-Ball Champions Shane Van Boening and Joshua Filler also moved forward, with Van Boening triumphing over Francesco Candela 9-3, and Filler defeating Hsieh Chia Chen 9-3, finishing with a golden break.

The Ko brothers—Ko Pin Yi, Ko Ping Chung, and Ko Ping Han—secured their spots in the Last 64 with impressive victories. Ko Ping Chung particularly stood out, delivering a 9-0 whitewash against Darren Appleton, capped with a golden break.
